Focus areas

United Nations Association of Tanzania (UNA Tanzania) program focuses for the 2010-2013 strategic plan implementation periods and beyond will involve the following six program areas:


Peace and Security:

In this area we have been working to revitalize Tanzania CSO’s support and participation in the ICGLR, build awareness on the GLR Pact on stability, security and development especially in the affected border areas, engage regionally and advocate for the implementation of the GLR pact, promote youth engagement on issue of peace and security promote public debate on issue of peace and security facing Tanzania with special focus on the importance election tolerance and the issues of Zanzibar.


Human rights and Good Governance:

Under this area, we are focusing on Election campaign financing, business of human right issues, building Public awareness of human right, promoting citizens participation in local government, empowering youth and woman candidates general election, civic and voters education for new voters and marginalized groups and media election monitoring.


Millennium Development Goals:

In this area, we are focusing on promoting public debate on MDGs and the new MKUKUTA, advocacy and information campaign on sexual reproductive health issues, capacity building of newly elected local government leaders on MDGs financing and budgeting, youth MDGs programming and engaging with intonation advocacy.


Climate Change:

Awareness on climate change (impact, mitigation and adaption) Advocacy for adaption plans and budget allocation, popularizing and advocacy for the NAP and NAPA, popularizing CDM and carbon trading for the public to benefit from it, Advocacy on the need to address the special adaptation need of Zanzibar, International advocacy for marginalized voice.


Advocacy and support to the one UN program:

Public information, awareness and support, International advocacy and Public feedback to the one UN Program in Tanzania.


Organizational Development:

UNA Tanzania is an organization that is continuously evolving in a bid to ensure that we continue to deliver on our mandate in the most effective way possible. With a new “care-taker” executive committee in place, we are continuing to reforming the organization and this will require increased zeal to institute an even stronger organization.


In this program area, we will be working to enhance our institutional capacity, increasing our cooperation and collaboration with the internal UNA community and the WFUNA.
