Network Meeting Of Civil Society Organization Of Temeke District

The Millennium Declaration in 2000 was a milestone in international cooperation; it inspired development efforts that have improved the lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world.

The Millennium Development goals represent human needs and basic rights that every individual around the world should be able to enjoy that is – freedom from extreme poverty and hunger; quality education, productive and decent employment, good health and shelter; the right of women to give birth without risking their lives; and a world where environmental sustainability is priority, and women and men live in equality not forgetting global partnership.

These goals are achievable when nationally owned development strategies, policies and programmes are supported by international development partners. Tanzania through the donors help, its one of the countries moving forward, demonstrating that, it is a possible reality to meet the goals by winning an award for having fulfilled MDG 2 that is, achieve universal primary education.

On 18th May 2011 United Nations Association of Tanzania in fulfilling its three year program on Millennium Development Goals Awareness Campaign, it organized a network meeting with 8 Civil Society Organization of Temeke District in Dar es salaam at Apeadu Hall, each being represented by 3 participants respectively, to train and equip them with knowledge on the 8 Millennium Goals.

The main goal towards these training its to empower the said Civil Society Organization with a weapon which they will later use to influence the Local government leaders and the required decision makers so as to prioritize MDGs in their local budget and Development plan. This is because meeting the goals is everyone’s business, and falling short would multiply the dangers of our world. But achieving the goals will put Tanzania on a fast track to a world that is more stable, more just and more secure.

Let us keep that promise.
