The MDGs Awareness Campaign implementation activities took place in Pemba project site from 19th to 21st July 2011.
The project officer, Reynald Raymond together with the UN Clubs of Tanzania Network (UNCTN) co-coordinator, Catherine Fidelis and a member of the National Model UN organizing Committee, Omar Hassan went to Pemba for a number of project implementation activities which led to the establishment of 8 new UN Clubs in Mkoani Pemba these include Mkanyageni, Chokocho, Uweleni, Mwambe, Kengeja, Ngwachani, Mizingani and Fidel Castro secondary schools.
The project was able to reach a total of 405 students in Mkoani Pemba district with basic MDGs information through facilitations and distribution of MDGs Swahili and English fliers.
Also a seminar on MDGs was conducted for the councilors of Mkoani Pemba in which a total of 28 councilors including the Mayor were in attendance. The councilors who were, for the most part, unaware of the MDGs were left with a challenge of starting implementing the MDGs at the grass root level especially the ones that can be implemented without requiring national intervention like MDG number 7, by making by-laws to ensure protection of the environment in their wards.
